UndocuAging: A Binational Study on Older Mexican. Undocumented Migrants and Deportees’ Mental Health

Our study examines the following research questions for immigrants residing in California: 1) What does it mean to age as undocumented in the current political climate?; 2) What are the challenges/barriers faced with growing old while undocumented?; 3) How do these older undocumented migrants obtain access to health care, economic, and social services?; 4) What strategies/resilience mechanisms do older undocumented migrants adopt to survive and prepare for old age in the US? For deportees residing in Zacatecas: 1) How has living in the US impacted their lives as they grow old in Mexico?; 2) What is the process of re-integration to life in Mexico, having once lived in the US and after deportation proceedings?; 3) What challenges did they face or are they currently facing having been deported from the US and now aging in Mexico?; 4) How do they obtain access to health care, economic, and social services in Mexico in old age?; 5) What strategies/resilience mechanisms do older deportees adopt to survive and prepare for old age in Mexico?
